Some of the art does seem a bit off (not nearly to what the reviews would lead me to believe), but dear lord that's hardly a reason to rate a game as one-star.
Some people buy games for the artwork, some buy it for the gameplay. I love the old-school dungeon cobblestones they have that are reminiscent of Hero Quest. I was a bit worried, but thus far it's been cool! The miniatures are definitely awesome. There are valid critiques here, but, again, people were judging this stuff before they even LOOKED at the game. Just don't buy it if you aren't going to like it. It's like not liking a game that's historically themed or something. Those can be tied in certainly if this game has a systemic problem, but it should not be the basis for a shitty review. Things should be specific to the game itself, not meta-critiques for the industry. If you just don't like games that use apps, that's totally valid too, but don't shit on this game just because it has an app.
They aren't trying to market the game as a standalone and then swoop in and "getcha" with an app requirement. I'm sure several people are already typing up comments before they even get to this section, but I want to lay out valid criticisms as they relate to the above, because I'm not stating that this pieces are immune from critique. Do I feel the need to go write reviews for any newly released game or sequel game and say "WOW 2 hours is my max this game is going to suck"? No. I don't enjoy games with play times of 3 hours or more. And if you don't buy it, don't write a review for it. why would you buy it if that's the case? Just don't buy it. I've seen so many 1-star reviews and comments on the game that are essentially "OMG I can't stand app integrations in board games." What I don't understand is that none of them evaluate the game for what it is.
